You're right - you have nothing to lose. I have read some extremely detailed and involved procedures for doing paint touch-up. Basically it sounds like doing the job right is more about patience and taking your time to complete all the steps rather than skill. There are some very good write-ups on the Net if you spend a while searching (sorry I don't have the links - new computer). Somebody help me out here - what is that car detailing forum that is the biggest one on the Net? I'm sure you could find the link from there. Essentially the procedures involve inserting paint into the scratch and wet-sanding to blend in with the surrounding areas. Unfortunately I don't have any pros to recommend, and I honestly think you can do a better job yourself because you care about your car more than anyone else. You will take the time to do it right - letting coats of paint dry overnight between layers, taking your time on the sanding, etc. Probably a touchup will look better than a new panel job, and if it looks horrible you can get the panel job done anyway.
